Jane Weir is an Anglo-Italian writer, designer and editor who grew up in
Manchester and Northern Italy. She lived in Belfast for several years before
moving back to England. She was joint winner of the inaugural Dawson
Jackson Award for Poetry (2003) and her first collection, The Way I Dressed
During the Revolution (Templar Poetry, 2005) was shortlisted for the Glen
Dimplex New Writers Award (2006). She has published a pamphlet, Alice,
(2006) based partially on the life of the early twentieth century Derby political
activist, Alice Wheeldon, who was imprisoned for allegedly attempting to
assasinate Lloyd George. and a short monograph on the poet Charlotte Mew.
She is currently completing a monograph on Katherine Mansfield, the
modernist short story writer. Jane Weir's second collection, Before Playing
Romeo, was launched at the Wordsworth Trust Summer Poetry Readings at
Grasmere in October 2007. Her poem 'On the Recommendation of Ovid we
tried a weasel' was the overall winner in the 2008 Wigtown Poetry
Competition and 'Poppies' was published in the selection of contemporary war
poetry commissioned by Carol Ann Duffy for the Guardian in July 2009.
Walking the Block (2008), a unique poetic biography of the creative lives of
Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher, the highly respected twentieth century
textile designers, was launched at the Crafts Study Centre, Farnham in
October 2008. This collaborative work recovers the creative lives of Phyllis
Barron and Dorothy Larcher and their extensive links with colleagues such as
Enid Marx, the textile and industrial designer and folklorist (with Margaret
Lambert). They were also associated with painters such as Paul Nash and arts
and crafts communities in Gloucestershire, with whom they collaborated in
completing important commissions. Their clients included Coco Chanel, Girton
College, Cambridge, Winchester Cathedral , the Duke of Westminster and
numerous private clients. Walking the Block was shortlisted and highly
commended in the Literature Category of the 2009 British Book Design
Awards. Throughout 2009 Jane Weir has toured across the British Isles with
Walking the Block, connecting her poetry from this innovative work with wide
ranging audiences and readers in Schools, Colleges, Universities, Reading

Jane Weir's poetry is also published elsewhere in poetry magazines and
anthologies including Out of Fashion (Faber), Answering Back (Picador) and The
Forward Book of Poetry.
Jane lives in Derbyshire and Manchester where she writes and runs her own
textile and design business. She has recently been appointed the Fiction Editor
of Iota Magazine. The inaugural fiction issue of Iota will be published in
January/February 2010.
